I grew up in Australia with cane toads all around. This image ooks awfully like a cane toad to me - but i am not a frogologist so I could be wrong. Some Australian scientists say its another invasion from Indonesia and not from Australia. If it is a cane toad, woebetide the environment in East Timor because nothing can stop the cane toad. Nothing! It's indestuctable and will change your world forever. In Australia, the farmers and the government decided to let this monster from South America in & it couldn't dowhat it was supposed to do; namely, eat cane beatles that were attacking the sugar can farms. They were too high up for the toad to eat so he started eating and killing many of our native species.
I showed photos I obtained from a Timorese environmental activist to a couple of experts in Australia, and was told that they are the black-spined toad, bufo melanostictus, from asia, which has been spreading across the Indonesian archipelago over the last few years. The photo on this blog looks like a black-spined toad to me from the descriptions I have heard on how to identify them. Although, it is not impossible that the cane toad is also in Timor Leste.
